RM207b war compensation: Nizar plays dumb!

I think Nizar Jamaluddin didn't do any research on the RM207 billion war compensation he claimed 'disappeared' into the government's coffer, or he and his team simply wanted to politically ride on the issue.

Had he done his homework, that amount of money didn't come in cash. What was termed as 'compensation for the victims of Japanese occupation' during World War II did not apply on those forced to build the 'Death Track' in Burma (Myanmar now) but also others who were badly affected by the occupation.

The number 30,000 raised by Nizar and his Jejak team cannot be confirmed as the number could be more or less.

In 1988, Tokyo admitted its 'mistakes' in Malaya, Burma and other countries and started to compensate them by providing financial aid for developing those countries, and Malaysia is one of them.

There was no clue to determine how many Malaysians were affected during the war, including the number taken by force to Burma to build the 'Death Railway Track', including a bridge across the Kwai River.

It was also not an easy task for any government to conduct a survey on those affected citizens as war promised nothing but sorrow and pain. Some claims were also found to be contain lies as to lucre on the compensation offer.

In that manner, the Japanese government had from 1988 distributed aids to various countries, including China and Malaysia as a diplomatic gesture to improve relations and put the bad episode behind their relations.

I wonder if Nizar himself, as a former senior government servant, had been following news published in newspapers and other bulletins about Japan's sincere approach to mend better ties with the countries it once occupied.

For Malaysia, various channels were established with Japan as a method to channel such compensations to the country. The only thing is, it didn't reach the family of the war victims but was instead translated into developing the nation.

Several grants was given by Tokyo to Malaysia, including for students, in effort to meet the amount RM207 billion 'owed' by them to Malaysians.

Why would the 30,000 get about RM3 million each when it is believed more than 1 million Malaysians had suffered during the occupation? There is no just to it, right?

Its really intriguing. Why only now that Nizar and his opposition team show a lot of interest in that money?

I believe they will also question the RM270 billion fund purported given by Tokyo to the Malaysian government in 2009 for the Padang Besar-Kunming railway track. Just wait...

Fine. However, the payment was made, it is important that Mahathir clear the air and the government give us a clear and accurate account of how the money was disbursed and its current status.

salam tn,

Japanese aids is always with a string attached.

That is why Nizar became the Perak "Menteri Besar Sekejap". If he was smart, he would have told the thuggish DAP Exco Nga and Ngeh to tail the suspicious ADUNS instead of tailing him everywhere he went to make sure he said the right things always, especially in front of reporters.

Then 2 of their ADUNs katak lompat. The rest is history. And his Menteri Besar Sekejap status has also become history.

True, at times he opened his mouth to say the wrong things. Got scolded by HRH Sultan Johor, too.

Hhhe was in the doldrums for quite a bit. So, he thought of the Japanese compensation issue to try and redeem himself. But he is a goner. How to be given votes and a responsible job when he has shown supidity time and again?

Bijan Heroshima,

Wat r u talk? Where got proof? Talk from your arse one, ha?

The government should be prompt to come out with an official explanation on this matter rather than keeping quiet abt it. The elegant silence syndrome is encouraging the opposition to perpetuate the fitnah (if the claim is untrue)
What is our Menteri Penerangan doing?

bro,

not worth for pm and tun dr mahathir to give answers on the issue as there is nothing for the govt to hide. the compensation, as u said did not come in the form of cash but in grants and other kinds. nizar probably is taken away by the big value of money involved but he forgot the fact that japan has been channeling aid to malaysia since our independence.

207bil is almost close to Malaysian annual budget. Imagine that figure. Where they get this figure? Can japan afford such amount? 4% of their gdp!!! It was only 25mil

bro,
