Of Shah Rukh Khan and Jaclyn Victor...

I didn't watch the Hindi movie 'My Name is Khan'. Not that I' m not a fan of Hindi movies but I don't have that time anymore. The last time I went to the cinema was during 'Bobby', three times, and I can sing each and every song without understanding what it means!

However, I do listen to the song by Jaclyn Victor, 'Harapan Bangsa'. What's wrong with it, anyway?!

Sometimes, we get ridden by sentiment. As a Muslim, I prefer to be a moderate one. Who says Islam separates mosques from churches? But I am not such a liberal when it comes to the 'Dos and Donts'.

Hello! Some local movies too contain religious sentiment. Worse still is racial sentiment that hinders other race from watching it. And what do we do about that when the authority approves its screening, especially when the producers said 'it was just a movie laaaarrr!'
An influential Muslim youth group said today that Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s “My Name Is Khan” movie confuses Muslims as it promotes liberal Islam and religious pluralism, and warned Malaysian broadcasters not to air the hit film.
The Muslim youth group’s statement comes after the Malay right-wing group Perkasa’s call last week for Muslims nationwide to boycott award-winning singer Jaclyn Victor for singing the Malay-language Christian song “Harapan Bangsa”, which she has said is meant for Christians.
“Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia (ABIM) strongly protests the screening of ‘My Name Is Khan’ on TV3 on the second Hari Raya Aidil Adha.
“Films that carry confusing messages clearly shouldn’t (tidak wajar) be screened by a main Malaysian television station,” the group’s vice-president Ahmad Saparudin Yusup said in a statement today.
He questioned the timing of the film screening, saying that it raises the question of where the “media’s care and responsibility in their broadcasting materials” went.
I dont wanna to contest what others say about the movie and the song but I just want everybody to stop politicising it. Its not good.

Politics aside, those disgruntled should seek a proper channel to the authority and table their logic. No point going to the media each time we feel a little pinch on our butt.

As Islam demands us to respect the view and feeling of others, we should remain true Malaysians, a society that tolerates each other over small and petty matters. As for the major ones, we should pool ourselves together and seek arbitration.

I agree.

For far too long, we have been supinely letting demagogues and fanatics ride roughshod over us, in the name of race and religion.

I believe that a significant majority of Malaysians who are moderate in their views, who believe in religious and racial harmony and who wish for continued peace and prosperity to build a better life for themselves, their children, their children's children and generations yet to come.

How can we let a narrow-minded minority set the agenda for the rest of us Malaysians?

If you don't raise a protest, Jacklyn may compose another song that may confuse the young music lovers who look up to Malaysia's 1st idol.

These opposition has a wide array of schemes and strategies to waylay the weak, naive and gullible youth.

Remember the attempt by DAP and tokomg lim to invite Siti Nurhaliza to sing at their definitely political concert.

They had a bersih concert recently and PAS is famous for recruiting Ustazah Abby Abadi for the popularity attraction influencing the youth especially.

Never underestimate the power of glamour and music to brainwash mass audience.

If you watch a movie that has minutes of screen shot showing people drinking coca cola, you will leave the cinema feeling thirsty and instantly buying coke.

So silly. As if we believe everything that we see on TV or believe everything that we hear in songs or radio or wherever..

This practice of trying to ban everything must be stopped! We want thinking Malaysians who can decide what is right or wrong.

Don't you think it's time we stop seeing things (for Muslims)through the lense of sunat, makruh, harus, haram as decided by the ulamaks?

The clear prohibition as stated in Quran we must obey if we want to be Muslims... but for everything else, do use your brain once in awhile to decide whether it is good or bad for you. No need to ban here ban there... ban everywhere..
