'Tanjung Keling' and 'Cina Buta'

Now they are at it again. After a few months of 'lull', MIC and Perkasa are throwing punches at each other all over again. The issue is still Interlok.

I am not a realist but when history is concerned, I hate those who changed and refused to recognise it. Just like the white Americans who erased the fact that it was the blacks who actually built and established the White House.

Of course history brings out the dead from their graves. History can be inspiring, some of it makes us elated. But most history displays sad episodes of our ancestors, those who fought for Independence, World War II and sacrificed all they had for us to live in a better condition today. History also provides us with guides and clues as how we can improve human relations and build a nation.

But why do we need to change history when 10 was 10 and black was black back then? Yes, our government is doing its best to safeguard the interest of all, including the minorities but still, why must we change history if it means to please everybody? Why can't we leave it as it is?

Can we change history facts by saying it was the Japanese who actually invented the atomic bomb for the Americans to use it against them or make the world believe that it was Magellan who discovered Malay Peninsular? Maybe in our effort to please our neighbors, it's wise to change the fact that it was Malaysia who started attacking Indonesia during the Confrontation.

Why must we keep on bashing up each other over history matters?

And is there a need to bring up the matter 54 years after we gained Independence? Don't we have any better things to do rather than inciting anger and multi-racial hatred?

In the first place, who gave the names such as Tanjung Keling and Masjid Kapitan Keling? Who added 'Cina buta' to the Malay proverbs? Why wasn't there any opposition at that time. Why only now, more than 100 years after such names are already established and gazetted?

I think if we want to please everybody, we should also include Samy Vellu to the list of Independence fighters along with Tunku Abdul Rahman, or Lim Kit Siang as the co-founder of Majlis Amanah Rakyat so that every data in our history points to 1Malaysia!

So, is there a need to bicker over this petty issue? Unless you want our presence and future generation to live under a thicker prejudice, then you can go on playing up with such a political game.

Ohh... do you know that the late film star-cum-chief minister of Tamil Nadu, MG Ramachandran or MGR was the founder of MIC and the Muslim convert Cat Steven initiated Perkasa!

salam bro,

i think everybody should stop politicizing the issue. as u mentioned, its bad for our presence and future generation.

we cant change history fact. if we change it, means we want to forget our root and origin.

some facts are hard to swallow but it provides us with good lessons.

salam tuan,

The Malays use the term 'Keling' when referring to a person of Indian origins normally by that person's profession such as "Keling Botol,Keling Roti,Keling Estet,Keling Kain,Keling Dobi,Keling Potong Rumput,Keling Surat Kabar,Keling Potong rambut and many more. These terms are embedded in the Malay mindset as soon as they came into contact with the Indians they met here. By the way,the term 'Pariah' is NOT a Malay term. The Indians themselves use it to describe one of their kinds.
Can dropping the book as demanded by MIC/HINDRAF really change our history? Will it erase the perceptions that we have on the typical behavior of the Pariah Indians in Malaysia?
Dont you know that if at all, it is the Malays who are supposed to get upset by the book as the author pictured the Malays then in a very negative way? But then again the Malays dont react 'Macam Keling Karam'...

Jai, don't you think you were being a bit cynical there. Tell history as it should be told to hell with those who diagree with the facts.
One fact of history is the impoverished Chinese, call them or pendatang, immigrant or whahever, came to Malaysia (then Malaya) to seek a better life. A million of them must have promised the world to our forefathers and agreed to all the clauses on the special privileges for the pribumis, as long as they could be citizens of this country. But now they turn around and say that the Malays do not deserve any special treatment because the Malays too were pendatang. Get their warped logic?

And before the Chinese came, there were no gangsters in Malaya. No pimps, no prostitution, no smugglers, no major drug dealers, no hired killers, no big-time gambling on the numbers, big shipments of beer or liquor, no chauvinism, no communism, no tokong, no pigstys, no polution of the rivers, no indiscriminate felling of trees and timber, no cutting of the hills, no cheating in business and no to so other many social ills.

theprofessor said...

No dog poo on the streets, no protection rackets, no noisy processions during Chinese festivals, no firecrackers, noboy to complain about the sound of the azan, no overloaded lorries, no major damage to roads, no need for major road repairs, no cheating on halal food, no proselytising, nobody to belittle the sultans, nobody to look down on the Malays, nobody to call others hitam metallic, nobody to offer you bribes and yet at the same time complain about corruption in the country. If fact, so many Nos, if our forefathers had stood their ground and told the British that NO Chinese can come in by the millions. And that, my friend, is the facts in history. No?

theprofessor said...

And no Ah Longs, nobody to spit everywhere on the streets, no human trafficking, no need to bring in Indonesian maids who work like slaves at the Chinese homes and restaurants, and where many were made sex slaves by their Chinese employers, no night clubs and dangdut joints where Malay women prostitute themselves to mostly Malay customers and no traders who indicriminately hoard goods and raise prices. No discimation at the work places, for the benefit of Chinese workers and management. You get it? No?

Amongst others:-

1.When Samy Vellu resigned to give way to Palanivel, he still holds the ministerial status.

2.Palanivel was appointed Senator and later Minister in the Prime Minister's Dept when he was not selected to stand in the by-election for the Hulu Selangor parliamentary constituency,

3.Nalakarupan abandoned ABI to become his bitter enemy, founded and headed an Indian-based mosquito political party but later appointed Senator; and

4.A high-powered committee was formed to review (revise) 'Interlok', a novel written by National Laurette Abdullah Hussein following MIC/Indian protest for alleged offensive words used in the novel. But suddenly announcement was made by two MIC leaders, Palanivel and Subramaniam, instead of TSMY, DPM and Minister of Education that the novel has been withdrawn as text book in the school syllabus. What an insult to the National Laurette, to the committee and perhaps to a certain extent TSMY.

How much more the majority will become submissive and subservient to the the demands of the minority, that are irresponsible, extreme, devoid of sensitivity and misplaced?

PERKASA has strongly stressed that MIC will lose the Malay votes. What about UMNO? In all probability, it will be affected too.

okay ,20 years from now.if i write a book about malay incest and other issue .don't amok!.it's a fact that malays still using the word keling towards the indians, knowing well the word is a racist slur,it show that you have no respect for people of other race.the word nigger was "okay" in 1900s.so ,what is your reason for your people to use it now?

orang melayu tak hormat bangsa lain, suka sangat hina bangsa india macamlah bangsa saudara begitu baik sangat. adakah bangsa melayu macam malaikat-malaikat dari syurga?

i respect najib for making this decision

wallahul 'alam

Keling is referred to People who came from Kalinga in those days....Kalinga is just one of the states in India in those time....People are NOT civilised and educated that time...People call or give name to a comunity just based on where they come from and link them in to one name based on skin color or which part on the world they come from in those days...After all these years, we have grown and civilised...We, Indians are born in Malaysia (NOT in India) So, why Malaysians (Malay & Chinese) is referring all Malaysian Indians as keling?? We are NOT Keling...Kamus DBP gives reference to Keling as Indian Muslims from India..Does that mean those malays (sultan, prime minister, civilians, etc) with indian blood are Kelings too??
Words can be harshly interpreted to discriminate people....Where gone ourcivilised thougths??

Actually, this is my theory - 'keling' comes from Kalinga(old empire in southern India) - so Indian in Malaysia from Tamil ethnicity which originated from southern India - so the word is already gazetted - don't tell me you don't know ancient Malay kingdom relationship with ancient India (Chola empire etc...) - thay is before Malaysia even established - Kalinga(rasanya ada dalam buku sejarah tingkatan 4 / filem Bollywood yang saya tak ingat namanya)
