'I am the legitimate Sultan' - Tengku Ismail Petra

“I am the Sultan and Sovereign Ruler for Kelantan Darul Naim. This is my right according to the constitution and agreements that were reached between the British government under the Federation of Malaya Agreement 1948 and under the Independence of Malaya Agreement 1957 and under the Federal Constitution.”

This is the proclamation from Sultan Ismail Petra dated November 27 saying that he is still the rightful ruler (of Kelantan) according to the Federal Constitution. It was distributed by Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

The press conference came after Sultan Muhammad V stripped him of two state awards last week. The Kelantan prince is a granduncle to the new ruler.

Saying that Tengku Ismail is still the legitimate sultan, the proclamation of the new sultan was against the law.

“I feel that there will be chaos as the king can be disposed of easily by the regent, which has king-like powers, so he disposes of the king even though the king is his father,” he claimed. “This is an unprecedented situation. If the king can be disposed of, what about the people?”

Kelantan, he added is having two sultans and it is the duty of the Federal Government and the Rulers Council to correct it before it 'explodes'.

"I am worried about what will happen when the Kelantan Sultan becomes the next Yang diPertuan Agong in about six years, after the Sultans of Terengganu and Kedah, if the dispute has not been resolved by then.

“I feel Umno should act to resolve the Kelantan palace conflict,” he said. “I also feel the state and federal governments should also act as the King’s position is safeguarded under the constitution.”

Tengku Razaleigh said that there were only three ways under the state constitution that a regent could succeed the king which is that the king dies, abdicates the throne or is absent from the state for more than 12 months without reasons acceptable to the Council of Succession.

why not ask sultan ismail to appear on tv and broadcast live to the nation and make the same proclaimation as stated in the article?

i challenged ku li and tengku anis to do so!

if you dare not then just shut up!

it came from tengku razaleigh. so, there must be some truth it what he said. otherwise he wouldnt interfere.

the kelantan sultan issue is making headlines also in foreign media. in shows how the malay rulers and the malays at large are embroiled in something which there themselves are not sure of.

this is an insult to the malay rulers and the malays. when a royal family are involved in infighting, it implies the uncertainty of the future of the malay monarchy in malaysia.

will it end just like the monarchy in nepal and other countries where killing and bad practice like this condemned the whole institution to a moral decay?

i think what tengku razaleigh said carry a lot of weight. a resolution needs to be worked out in order to distinguish who is the legitimate ruler... but which provision to follow? the state of federal's?

sdr,

susah nak percaya.

sultan ismail kan ke masih sakit?

maaf la... yang saya tau tangan baginda pun tak sembuh, so macam mana nak menulis?

saya cuma inginkan kepastian.

carilah jalan terbaik.

jangan disebabkan nila setitik, rosak susu sebelanga.

the new sultan deserves every rights to 'clear' his way. the amendment was done in accordingly and his status is beyond doubt.

so, even people like ku li cannot question the legality of his proclamation as a sultan.

Hangpa tak baca ka kepala hotak Ku Li. Dia bergaduh dengan so-called Sultan Kelantan. Kemudian nak heret satu Malaysia dan UMNO masuk campur dan gaduh sama. Nanti UMNO yang dapat taik, nama busuk. PKR, DAP, PAS akan masuk sebelah Sultan sekarang. Berperang lagi, macam Semangat 46 dulu. Bahlol dan bodoh punya manusia. Ku Li boleh haramkan "an institution like UMNO", kalau Malays institution memang mudah untuk di porak perandakan.
