I believe it was decided by the Star editorial team after its group editor-in-chief Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai (pic) was summoned to the Home Ministry in the evening. I was told he met KDN deputy sec-gen Datuk Fuad Aziz.
'The Star sincerely apologises to those who were offended by the content of the article...' (read h e r e for full statement). I believe its all over now. Guna is just like others who sometimes makes 'unintentional' errors. When I was with the NSTP group, there were also a few occassions when news and articles writen by staff reporters were subjected to legal suits. Opppss.... news is that, Chun Wai also received a showcause letter from the ministry. All this takes place within hours before the Star launches its weekly Bahasa paper (or is it gonna be just an insert to Sunday Star?) It also came to my knowledge that the Star was given a permit for a Bahasa daily (Massa something, if I'm not wrong) during Tun Dr Mahathir's era as the Prime Minister. What happens to the permit... is Star still holding it? Anyway, the apology is timely and well-accepted. Case is closed.
