Where are the ministers and deputies?

The Dewan Rakyat was almost deserted today with no sign of ministers and deputy ministers. This has caused several members of the Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) to question their commitment.

Datuk Mohamad Aziz (BN-Sri Gading) regretted the absence of ministers and deputy ministers who should be giving priority by listening to what the members of parliament (MP) have to say.

"We are debating the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's address, something important but I can see only one deputy minister here. Is this not an important item? The Yang di-Pertuan Agong reminded MPs to be polite but sometimes we have to raise our voice. The Prime Minister is vacating his post but nobody seem to care," lamented the veteran MP.

Only Transport Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Lajim Ukin was in Parliament then.

Outspoken Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin (BN-Kinabatangan) also aired his unhappiness over the absence of many government representatives.

"When we raise our voice, people say we are rude. We may be on the government's side but this situation make us unhappy. The ministers and deputy ministers cannot be busy at the same time. If they don't have the time then replace them," he said.

Hmmm... something need to be done about that. However, this is not the latest trend. Ever since I started my Parliament-reporting in 1981, it has taken place... so many times.

This is our government we uphold. They are the ministers and deputy ministers we hope to bring about changes to a lot of weak systems. But there they are, attending to personal matters which can safeguard and prolong their political span.

Attitude problem, I suppose, especially those who have served for more than two terms. To them, the Dewan Rakyat excites them no more. It will be just a routine to them.

Shall we propose to the government or to Umno General Assembly next month to limit Cabinet members to only two terms tenure? That should apply to MPs, too!

this is the attitude of our govt senior servants. we gave them our votes and they threw it down the drain.

i hope the parliament can introduce a new code of ethic for the MPs such as to make in compulsary to attend all seatings unless they are on official duty.

sad to say that our MPs are not like those in other countries where they arr very committed to the job and task given.

two terms limit?
bro, Najib baru nak naik..lu dah suruh ada limit. mana cukup two terms, bro.

Tun mahathir pun dulu ada cakap, paling kurang pun three terms, one term for planning, another to implement and another to reap the benefits. I hoped he was not talking about personal benefits.

yes sir, 2 terms good enough la to make what they are suppose to make.

give chance to others, too. so many want to become YB these days, including the young ones.

if you dont perform, better calls it quit or you will be removed.

i used to cover dewan rakyat, too, bro during the early 90s. as you said, there were many occassion when no minister and deputy attended it. so difficult to get story.

i think this is just their habit. sometimes there depend on the issue for debate.

the opposition bench too had the same problem. a lot of ponteng!

i wonder whether the dewan rakyat can take action on those who ponteng too much, i.e cut their allowances.

still the same old story, bro.

i have been there for 12 years as a reporter and observer.

nothing changed!

you call them yang berhormat, right?

what do they call you? YANG BODOH!

CLOSE DOWN THE DEWAN RAKYAT. SET UP AN OPEN ARENA AT PADANG MERBOK, BETTER THAT WAY!

THEY DONT SERVE FOR THE RAKYAT. ONLY FOR THEIR PERSONAL NEEDS!

Agree with the suggestions... at least 2 terms for YB without no fortfolio.. 3 terms for any fortfolio.. Should be implement very soon, because UMNO need fresh blood on their lines-up.

Pada yang sudah berkurun-kurun dalam line-up tu...make way la pada muka baru... takkan lah dari time Tun Mahathir (22 tahun), nak juga masuk line-up DS Najib...!! Korang paham-pahamlah sapa mereka-mereka itu...Dah patut pencenpun..!!
