Its good that the proposed hike in toll rates has been postponed to year end. However, the way it was done was full of DRAMAS!
Please... dont tell us that any proposal by any ministry must be implemented without prior consent of the Cabinet. Cummon Md Zin, what have you got to say to the rakyat.
The people are not that stupid anymore to distinguish an element of 'a game' in his announcement on Thursday about the new rates for 5 toll concessionaires. Even some MPs - of both BN and the opposition - were against it.
Can't you just wait for another day to present the proposal to the weekly Cabinet meeting. And true enough, it was rejected by the meeting which was chaired by Datuk Seri Najib today.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said in Pattaya that the issue should be referred to the Cabinet first before any announcement is made. Yes, but such is the habit of the BN government when orchestrating its drama in any run-up to by-elections or general elections.
Everybody knows that any ministry CANNOT make its own decision before it gets full consent and approval from the Cabinet. The Works Minister was aware of it but it is believed that he was asked to simply make such an annoucement to attract some 'cheap publicity' and to draw public protest.
He succeeded, and so did Pak Lah and Najib. Finally, they decided to postpone it to the relief of the rakyat. They government can expect lots of praises from all sectors of the community.
