A premier from Bangsa Malaysia next?

Now that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has said it, we hope Malaysians are now at ease. His statement that any Malaysian, irrespective of race and religion, can become a prime minister, could have triggered an alarm to the Malays, whom all these while strongly held to the 'believe' that only a MELAYU can sit at that position, and not others.

Dr M said anyone from Bangsa Malaysia is eligible for the position provided that he heads the party with majority power (at the Parliament).

It was only a few days earlier when Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi hinted to the Press that 'anyone could become the prime minister'.

Former MCA president (if I am not mistaken), Tun Ling Liong Sik used to become acting premier when Dr M was away during the late 1980s.

Let's not bicker over this issue. Bangsa Malaysia will come soon although it may takes time. When it comes, there will be more Malaysians that 'Malaysian Chinese' or 'Malaysian Indians'.

But of course will dont want to end up like Indonesia where each and every single citizen must bear the 'Indon' name. It wont apply to Malaysia. We will still retain our Malay, Chinese, Indian, Sikh, Iban or other names as Bangsa Malaysia.

So, when the idea to form a multi-racial party (instead of Barisan Nasional) was mooted, the groundwork has been laid down.

I dont want to talk more about this. Leave it to our experts as I dont want to offend anybody. Maybe Datuk Wong Chun Wai wants to add something to this....

BANGSA MALAYSIA WILL TAKE A LONGER TIME TO ITS FULL BIRTH, BRO. AS DR M SAID, ITS NOT GOING TO BE EASY AS WE THINK.

HOWEVE, IT IS NOT A DREAM. IT'S UP TO MALAYSIANS TO CLOSE ALL RANKS FIRST BEFORE THEY CAN REALLY BECOME BANGSA MALAYSIA.

WHEN IT HAPPENS, THERE SHOULDNT BE ANY RACE GAP OR BARRIER. THE NATIONAL UNITY SHOULD BE FOSTERED FROM NOW ON.

MY ADVISE TO THE MALAYS, DONT 'MELATAH' ON THIS ISSUE. AS FOR THE NON-MALAYS, DONT GET TOO EXCITED AND CARRIED AWAY TO THE EXTENT THAT THEY WILL START FIGHTING FOR THIS CAUSE FROM NOW ON.

GET A UNITED MALAYSIANS FIRST BEFORE WE CAN TALK ABOUT 'ANYBODY CAN BECOME A PM'.

if you go by party, of course umno will remain as the dominant party in barisan nasional, and a malay will become prime minister.

i support the idea of one party only for the government, not in form of racial dominant but more of malaysians.

this will augur well for national integration.

bang, ada ke apa2 peruntukan dalam perlembagaan yang membenarkan bukan melayu jadi PM?

maaf, saya tak baca pulak perlembagaan kita ni... tebal sangat ler

bujai said...

ex-prof,
yes, it will take a lot of time, effort and pain to form a bangsa malaysia.

nevertheless, it should start with one ruling party first. who should become pm, comes later

bujai said...

si pitak,
that's the whole idea about a single ruling party, under which all malaysians regardless of race and religion can become members. it will then up to the party's supreme council to nominate who should be the pm and so on...

let's see...

bujai said...

anon,

i hope the malays will understand the whole issue, bro. hope no more politicising on this issue that will incite inter-racial hatred. we are all malaysians!

In all forms to be filled up, u will be asked what ur race and religion are.
Chinese muslim covert is Azhar Bin Abdullah Yong, is Indian muslim convert Azhar Bin Abdullah Vellu ?

dear KL,

as i mentioned, malaysia will not adopt to the indonesian or thai ways of doing it.

i believe our ID will still contain elements of our race, religous etc.

even we will deserve the rights to retain our malay, chinese, indian, iban, khadazan, dusun and other names.

APA2 JE LA said...

too many delicate issues to be attended before one bangsa malaysia can emerge.

dont u think so?

bujai said...

apa2 je la,
u got any ideas what those issues are?

it is delicate, indeed. that's why we need level-headed leaders to address it, not some punk-politicians!

siapa pun boleh jadi PM... cuma jangan terlampau ramai MAMAK dalam kabinet kita ni. MAMAK banyak putar belit, nanti jahanam negara. MAMAK MATA LEBAM lagi dahsyat!

I TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH TUN DR M OR PAKLAH OR YOU OR WHOEVER SAYS THAT A NON-MALAY CAN BECOME A PM OF MALAYSIA.

FIRST, MALAYSIA IS A MALAY-DOMINATED PARTY

SECOND, UMNO HAS ALWAYS BEEN AT THE STEERING OF POLITICIS

AND THIRDLY, I AM AFRAID IF A NON-MALAY BECOMES A PM, THE RIGHTS TO SAFEGUARD THE MALAY INTERESTS WILL BE GONE FOR GOOD.

SO, THOSE WHO TAKE THIS IDEA AS A PRACTICAL ONE, BETTER SUCK YOU TOE!

separuh melayu,

perhaps it will be more easier if we dont have so many parties in barisan nasional.

perhaps it will be better if our founding fathers had worked on this a long time ago

perhaps it will take a lot of pain before we gain

perhaps i wont be around anymore to see the birth of bangsa malaysia

siew,
perhaps your next generation will enjoy a more harmonious malaysian-style of environment

One step in becoming true bangsa Malaysia is to have one common mode of communication, meaning only one stream of education. This is national language with national school is the only school in the country. Are non-malays ready for this? If the answer is BIG NO then having a non-malay PM is out a question.

Jai,

Bangsa Malaysia has happened for one man, Mahathir Kutty. He is an Indian and he became our PM. Malays are not racist. It is a pity that Mahathir chose to deny his Indian heritage and deny, in effect Bangsa Malaysia on all others. That reflects on him and not on Malays.
